Jim  was shot and killed Sept. 21,1974  while working as a brakeman on a Burlington Northern Railroad caboose. It would have been only three days until his 22nd birthday and was only six months since his marriage to junior high school girl friend, Pat Schied. Jim died when shotgun pellets a caboose window and pierced his heart.
