Michael Ray Bergstraesser
 

Michael Ray Bergstraesser, 67, passed away in Carlsbad, California, on April 2, 2019. He was born on October 16, 1951, in Lincoln to Robert and June (Davis) Bergstraesser. Mike graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1970 and obtained his bachelor's in psychology at the University of Nebraska. Always up for a challenge, he completed master's degrees at Indiana University (Strategic Management) and Drexel University (Business Administration) in his 50's.

After 30+ years living in Edmonds, Washington, and working in Underwriting at Premera Blue Cross, Mike retired to Carlsbad to embark on a post-retirement career. He loved helping others, and he spent the last five years at HUB International mentoring others in his profession.

Mike's creative passions were uniquely intense and diverse. He was an avid ham radio operator knowledgeable in disaster readiness. He designed and built houses for a living. He enjoyed golf and fly fishing. He wrote and directed music performances, including a tuba quartet. He played the flute, piano, guitar, drums and harmonica. At the time of his passing, he was planning to pick up the cello. Mike will always be remembered for his smile, good humor, curiosity, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Survived by wife Serrina Pantera Bergstraesser, daughter Ariona Elizabeth (Ryan Douglas) with former wife Elizabeth, grandson Kayden Michael Douglas; brother John (Alice) and sister Laurie Algera of Las Vegas, Nevada; half siblings Beth Miller (Matt) and Mark Bergstraesser; beloved aunts Mary Rodaway of Palmyra and Carolyn Bergstraesser of Beatrice. Preceded in death by both parents, brothers David and Jim.
